José Luis Gaitán was born under the Aquarian sign at 0:55
am, on February 9th. He studied comics and animation 2D with Carlos Ruiz Brussain;
he completed his Higher Education at Nueva Escuela de Diseño y Comunicación
where he obtained his degree as graphic publicity designer; he also studied animation
(3D Studio MAX) at the same college; his training as comic book artist
was a merge of professional workshops, reading, analysis and many hours of being
sitting before the board.
He worked in sundry magazines in Argentina as author of specialized articles
on animation, comics and videogames (he is a professed hardcore gamer); likewise,
he illustrated covers and articles (Comiqueando, Gamestation, Xtrategas,
etc.).
He worked (and still works) as freelancer graphic designer for different editorials,
designing cover books (André Materon Ediciones, Editorial Dunken,
Ediciones Iberia, etc.); he carried out specialized graphic works
such as the graphics for a GPS made by Softron S.A., leaflets
and CD covers for musical bands and audiobooks (En voz Alta, Dúo
Avalos - Ayguavella, etc.), he was lately in charge of the image
for Kakawa chocolate store and character design for Todoinfantil.
Certainly he worked a lot within the comic world! He is the author of Babetool
(published by ComX in England and USA); in this comic, he was
the characters’ designer and scriptwriter (W. Taborda illustrated); said
comic was edited in Argentina by Mutant Generation Comics (non-concluded)
and by Deux Studio (complete); Babetool was published in Spain
in Linemagazine but with José Luis Gaitán illustrating
and writing; presently, he is preparing a new beggining for Babetool
wtih a new we-comic. He created The Bahamut Trial; for Kool
Comics of Denmark; in this work, he was the creator, writer and illustrator
(the comic was unconcluded); for Tokio Pop, he illustrated the
comic Kung Fu Bean for the Kung fu take out anthology,
unique issue. Together with Federico Velasco (script) and the
collaboration of Andrea Rodriguez (ink in some pages), he drew
Kinara for Domus editorial; he keeps on working
with his unit stories for the PPT Fanzine from Spain , yearly
issue; he worked on two one shot for England, Revamp, with script
of Scott Claringold; also, together with scriptwriter Shaun
Conde, he drew the unit Wonderful Dreadful: A Corpsey Christmas;
he decided to publish everything on web now, he was part of web magazine like
No-Retornable, Blanco Experimental and El
Webcomic. Beyond comics, illustration has always been an imaginative
resource; out from the comic world he has created tarot cards, illustrations
for bags and T-shirts for the young company Blix!, and ilustrator
for Mita Zon´s books (such Qué es la drepresión?).
As a teacher, he is in charge of the comic and creative ilustration workshop
at educational center Centro Cultural Rojas of University of Buenos Aires
(U.B.A.) for the last four years.
Like musician he was member of the group La Espada de Calliope
(Singer, composer) and Supermarionoise! (Singer, composer) and
righ is singer and composer of 48 Demonios.
He have eight cats: Groo, Luigi, Tita, Lucy Dakota, Yiyito Buda, Valentina
and India. Bastet keeps with her to Celina
(1996-2007) and Sugus (2009-forever!).
